We all love a gorgeous statement wall, but there’s so much more you can do with wallpaper to elevate your space. Whether it’s adding texture to the back of a bookcase or giving your ceiling a bold makeover, wallpaper is one of the easiest ways to create a designer feel in any room.
If you’ve been looking for fresh, creative ways to bring personality into your home, you’re in the right place. Let’s get into some of my favorite unexpected (and seriously chic) ways to style wallpaper!
1. Create a Statement Wall
Let’s start with the obvious, but with a twist. Instead of covering an entire room, choose one wall to turn into a focal point. A dominant wall behind a bed, sofa, or dining table instantly sets the tone for the entire space. Our grasscloth and textured papers bring warmth and dimension, making the room feel elevated and complete without needing to cover every inch.
Pro Tip: Bold botanical prints or retro-inspired patterns work especially well on statement walls, adding that “wow” factor without overwhelming the space.
2. Behind Built-Ins or Bookshelves
Want to create a custom, designer look? Try lining the back of built-in shelves or a bookcase with wallpaper. It’s a subtle yet striking detail that draws the eye and makes your shelves look styled and intentional. Plus, you can use leftover wallpaper scraps for this project, hello, budget win!
Best for: Textured grasscloth or paperweave wallpaper designs, they add depth and contrast without being too loud.
3. On the Ceiling
Yes, the ceiling! We love the idea of a statement ceiling, it’s like the fifth wall that often gets forgotten. A textured or patterned ceiling creates a cozy, intimate feel while making the whole room look pulled together.
Best for: Tropical designs, retro chic prints, or even a subtle textured paper for a sophisticated finish.
4. Framed Wallpaper Panels
Can’t commit to full walls? No problem. Try framing sections of wallpaper to create large-scale art pieces. This is a clever way to showcase a gorgeous print without needing to cover the whole room, and it’s renter-friendly!
Pro Tip: Use large frames or even molding to create a gallery wall effect with wallpaper. It’s like custom art but with a designer edge.
5. On Furniture
Yes, you read that right. Wallpaper isn’t just for walls! Try wrapping the front panels of a dresser, the back of a cabinet, or even the sides of a console table. It’s an unexpected detail that instantly makes furniture feel one-of-a-kind.
Best for: Small-scale patterns or textured solid dyed grasscloth to add subtle dimension.
6. On a Headboard
Give your bedroom a custom look by using wallpaper to upholster a headboard or even create a faux headboard directly on the wall. This adds a luxe feel without the cost of custom furniture.
Best for: Textured grasscloth or subtle woven designs, they add warmth and coziness to a bedroom.
7. Inside Closet Doors
Open your closet to a little surprise! Lining the inside of closet doors with wallpaper is a playful detail that makes even getting dressed feel luxurious.
Best for: Bright, cheerful prints or subtle textured paper, make it feel like a hidden gem.
8. On Stair Risers
Add a pop of personality to your staircase by covering the risers with wallpaper. It’s a fun way to add color and pattern without needing a huge amount of material.
Best for: Geometric patterns or beachy prints, they create movement and flow.
9. Tabletop or Tray Lining
If you’ve got some extra scraps of wallpaper, use them to line the inside of a serving tray or even cover a tabletop with glass over it. It’s an easy DIY that makes everyday items feel special.
Best for: Florals wallpaper or botanical prints, they’ll add a natural, organic feel.
