Measuring & Installation Guides
Wallpaper is an investment, and the final result depends as much on preparation and installation as it does on design.
We include detailed installation instructions with every order, but we strongly recommend hiring an experienced professional to measure your space and install your wallpaper.
Our wallcoverings are made with traditional techniques and need expert handling for the best outcome.
Start With a Professional
We recommend talking to a professional wallpaper installer before you place your order.
An experienced installer will:
- Measure your space accurately.
- Account for pattern repeat, doors, windows, and architectural details
- Recommend the correct quantity of wallpaper to order
- Minimize waste while ensuring proper coverage.
Since all House Party wallcoverings are made to order, it’s important to get accurate measurements from the start.
Measuring Your Space
If you’re just starting to gather information, installers usually measure:
- Wall height (floor to ceiling)
- Total wall width
- Number and placement of doors, windows, and openings
Installers round up measurements and add extra material for pattern matching and installation needs. Most professionals suggest ordering at least 15-20% more, but your installer should confirm the final amount.
Installation Requirements (Please Read)
All House Party wallcoverings require traditional paste; they are not self-adhesive (peel-and-stick).
Every quality we offer:
- Requires wallpaper paste
- Must be double cut on the wall for proper seam alignment
- Should be installed by a professional familiar with natural and specialty wallcoverings
Double cutting is a precise method that creates clean, seamless joins and allows for natural material differences. If trimming or installation is done incorrectly, it can cause visible seams, damage, or stains.
What to Expect During Installation
Professional installers will typically:
- Inspect all rolls prior to cutting or hanging.
- Prepare walls to be clean, smooth, dry, and properly primed.
- Apply the paste evenly to the back of the wallpaper.
- Hang one strip at a time, aligning patterns carefully.
- Double-cut seams on the wall for a refined finish
- Trim excess material at ceilings and floors using sharp blades.
Make sure the installation is complete before the wallpaper is exposed to moisture or direct sunlight for extended periods.
Care During Installation
Our wallcoverings are handcrafted and require skillful handling:
- Avoid creasing or folding.
- Keep water, paste, and adhesives off the surface.
- Clean hands and tools regularly during installation
- Any paste on the surface should be removed immediately with a clean, white, damp cloth.
